Regular Classes and Events
Our monthly online Pure Wind class is open to both non-members (booking through Eventbrite), as well as to student members free of charge. We practice the monthly coursework and calligraphy styles of Shokaisha together in a friendly group. Joining is a helpful way to familiarise yourself with the calligraphy teachings, materials, and course system of Shokaisha.
We also have regular classes, which do not follow the monthly coursework of Shokaisha. These classes are open to everyone over 16 years of age. We have been running these classes and events (through the Drawing and Painting Studio at various locations, most recently Woodside Library) since 2017.
We offer monthly classes, with cultural, nature or meditative themes, which are relaxed and friendly groups open to anyone to join. The calligraphy styles of Shokaisha are brushed, usually two kanji characters per month, exploring regular (kaisho), semi-cursive (gyōsho) or fully cursive (sōsho ‘grass’ style). We also lead longer afternoon masterclasses in shodō and Japanese stamp making (Tenkoku 篆刻). Several of our events have been generously sponsored by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
Please read our blog of past events to find out more, and see our list below of upcoming events that can be booked through Eventbrite.
