We are Pure Wind Shodō Calligraphy School, we respect your privacy and the importance of protecting your personal data. Our focus is on providing Japanese calligraphy educational coursework and training, as well as cultural groups, and we use this website, and our connected website at D+P Studio, as a method to help us do this, and to interact with visitors in a positive way. To achieve this, our site is set up in ways that use your information, which are detailed below.

Data and data collection

Pure Wind Shodō Calligraphy School, and our connected D+P Studio, may collect and process data when you:

  • Fill in forms, create an account, place an order, contact support or interact with us, access and use our coursework through the Moodle learning management system, or leave comments. We may also collect and process the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
  • Use our website, which collects data automatically using cookies and similar technologies.
  • Receive a referral or we receive data from service providers that help us operate.

We may collect and process the following data:

  • Identity Data – name, title, date of birth.
  • Contact Data – email address, phone number, billing/delivery address.
  • Account Data – username, preferences, communication history.
  • Technical Data – IP address, device identifiers, browser type, time zone, cookie IDs.
  • Usage Data – pages viewed, links clicked, session duration.
  • Marketing & Communications Data – your preferences in receiving marketing from us.
  • Transaction Data – order details and payment references may be stored and collected (we do not store full card details). We use the PayPal service for subscription and trial payments, and PayPal may collect and store your data.

Newsletter sign up form

In our newsletter sign up form we use Mailchimp, through our connected website D+P Studio (https://drawingandpaintingstudio.com/ , to collect the names and email addresses of visitors who agree to sign up to our Newsletter. We send our newsletter using the Mailchimp platform, though we may also alternatively send a newsletter through email without using Mailchimp. Please check the Mailchimp privacy policy for detailed information: https://mailchimp.com/legal/ . After you have signed up to our newsletter, we store your name and email address. You can unsubscribe from receiving our newsletter from the link in the Mailchimp newsletter or by replying to our email with the words ‘Unsubscribe’ or similar.

Why we use data (purposes) and lawful bases

Who we share your data with, and sending of data

We may share personal data with:

  • Service providers acting on our behalf (e.g. hosting, payment processing, delivery, IT support, email).
  • Professional advisers (lawyers, accountants), regulators, or government agencies where legally required.

We require all service providers to safeguard personal data and only process it according to our instructions. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
